[Home] :: [Support] :: [Internet Configuration] LMi.net MacOS 8
and 9 Setup
Modern Macintosh systems come Internet-ready, with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook Express pre-installed. You will need to configure your Mac to connect to LMi.net, however. Here's how:
- Run the "Internet Setup Assistant". This is usually found in a folder called "Assistants" on your hard drive. If you can't find it, try using the Find command in the Finder (under the File menu) to locate it.
- It asks "Would you like to set up your computer to use the Internet" click Yes
- "Do you already have an Internet account" click Yes
- The "Internet Editor Assistant" is launched. Click the right arrow.
- Give this configuration profile a name if you wish, click the "Modem" button, then click the right arrow.
- Select your modem type and port from the pop-up menus. If you do not see your modem listed, just pick "Hayes Accura 288". You can always change this setting later (by using the "Modem" control panel) If your modem came with software, the correct modem script may be installed along with it. Click the right arrow.
- Enter the phone number closest to you, and then your login name and password.
Click the right arrow.
- We do not require a connect script when you log-in, so click No here. Click the right arrow.
- Unless we have assigned you a static IP address, click No. Click the right arrow.
- The address of our Domain Name Servers are 66.117.136.6 and 66.117.151.5. Type each number on a separate line. Put "lmi.net" for the Domain Name for this configuration.
- Enter your Email address "your_login@lmi.net and password. If you have your own domain name, you can enter "you@yourdomain.com" The password is the same as the one you entered earlier. You can leave the "quoting character" alone. Click the right arrow.
- The E-mail account is your_login@mail.lmi.net. The SMTP server is "mail.lmi.net". Click the right arrow.
- Our Newsgroup Host computer is "news.lmi.net".Click the right arrow.
- We do not use Proxy severs, so leave this set at No. Click the right arrow.
- Click "Go Ahead"to implement this configuration, and you're ready to go.!
NOTE: Editing the information you just entered is easy, although the data is stored in 4 different places
Control Panels - Quick Guide
TCP/IP -- Connection method, Domain Name Server addresses
Modem What type of modem you are using, speaker on or off.
Remote Access -- The phone number, login name, and password for your Internet account.
Internet* -- Everything else, including e-mail settings.
*Note: On iMacs running MacOS 8.1, there is no Internet Control Panel. Instead, there is an application called "Internet Config" that will allow you to edit all of these settings. This is usually found in the "Internet Utilities" folder (inside the Internet folder). If not, use Find File to locate it.
